Positive Thinking Does Work – It’s Never Too Late

think positively

Positive Thinking

This is the second in the series, What a Difference a Year Makes“. While I always considered myself a glass-half-full kinda girl, being positive does require some work but it is very worth it.

A while back I saw the movie, “The Secret” and was very intrigued but soon forgot the general principals of the Law Of Attraction. Then last year when I found myself unemployed, I starting reading about the Law in depth. I started applying its principals everyday in order to attract the life I truly wanted. I have to tell you that it truly does work. Thinking positively does make a difference if you want to make changes in your life for the better. There are a gazillion books on LOA, so I won’t go into here but I will say that I am blessed to have found it and I am a true believer.

As of a year ago my career was drab, monotonous and overwhelming. While I got paid very well, it felt like blood money. My job took time away from my family just to be stressed, under appreciated and miserable. I felt like a prisoner who was owned by a bunch of people I didn’t even like. I literally felt as if a piece of me was dying everyday that I drove into that parking lot.

Then the best thing happened…I was laid off. Some people may think that being let go would be devastating but it’s all how you look at things. What was more important –  my sanity or a big pay check? For me the answer was obvious. Then I started thinking positively and I applied the law of attraction.  I laid out the life that I wanted by visualizing it and believing it was mine. My situation did a complete 180 and I was able to stay afloat financially. I learned what was truly important to me in the process.

Today I can say without hesitation that for once I am truly happy. Thinking positively doesn’t cost a dime but it does take dedication.

So if you want to change your situation, get a new job, better yourself or just be a lighter, happier person, start believing in yourself and your dreams.

Open up your world. Think positively.

Dreams can come true – I mean it!

If you can dream it, you can have it.

In my post called “What a Difference a Year Makes” I referenced six things that summed up my last crazy yet amazing year. “Dreams can come true- I mean it” is the first of series.

It truly is amazing, how much can change in a single year. We can hope that it all nets out to be positive or we can actually take action and make thing happen. I actually started the year letting things happen. I was going along day to day as if on auto pilot – not loving my job, feeling stuck and not knowing how to move on. I mean, let’s face it, with kids, bills and responsibilities, many of us are taught to do what you have to do even if it may suck! Right?

I decided it was time to put my mind to action and think positively. I read every book I could find about positive thinking, recited every mantra and most importantly, I believed things would change. And change they did. Within a couple months, I lost my job which most may think is awful but it was a blessing! At the same time my husband secured a new job with benefits that kicked in almost to the day of losing mine. Phewwww! I decided this was my chance to do what I wanted to do all my life – to be an actress.

Since I was 3 years old, I knew this is what I wanted to do. I took acting lessons as a kid and in college but I was taught to always take the safe bet and that going to school and getting a “good paying” job was more important. (More important to who?!) So I did just that. I received a BS in Finance and then an MBA in Marketing. I did make good money but guess what? I was not remotely happy. The acting bug always reared its ugly head but I usually had an excuse to push it back down – money, kids etc.

But when I got laid off last year, I knew I ran out of excuses and regardless of how old I was, I was going to do this! And I did. I got head shots done, enrolled in acting classes and started to put myself out there. It has been a fantastic ride. I have been on television, in films, a commercial, print and continue to book jobs. While I am still working my way through it all, I can say that I am 100% comfortable on camera and actually have been very fortunate to date. “Am I a huge Hollywood star”, you ask? Not YET. Stay tuned.

I continue to practice positive thinking everyday and I can tell you that it truly works for me. I am happy. I have accomplished a lot and I continue to make goals and achieve them. I can also tell you that I will NEVER work in corporate America again. I tell my kids all the time, that I demand one thing: That they go to school for something they love and that they can have anything they put their mind to. If you love what you do, the money WILL come.

If you have a dream not matter how big, it can be a reality. Don’t give up on it.

Dream it, believe it and go for it. Why not?

“Happiness doesn’t just flow from success;
it actually causes it.”
~Richard Wiseman

In other words, good things come to good people and being happy, upbeat and positive actually brings good things.

What a Difference a Year Makes

Happiness Depends March 12 I have not posted in quite a while, over a year in fact, and the amount of change in my life has been incredible. While I won’t bore you with all the details in this one post (I will do that over time), I will say that this in summary and expand later:

~ Dreams can come true – I mean it!
~ Positive thinking does work – it is never too late
~ Karma can definitely be on your side – so be good (for goodness sake)
~ Always listen to your gut – it knows what the hell it’s doing
~ Make as many connections as you can – they will pay off
~ Lastly, enjoy the ride – you get one chance People!

Again, I am happy to be back and I look forward to elaborating on my year and what all this means. Yes, it all has a meaning and you just might learn something.

A Survival Guide to Sarcasm; 6 Killer Comments You’ll Want to Live Without

Happiness Depends 6 Killer Comments

I come from a long line of sarcastic people. From my 92 year old grandmother right down to my 12 and 4 year old girls. We all have a quick wit, sharp tongues and the comments for better or worse, fly. What I’ve noticed, though, is that while sarcasm is part of our genetic make up, comments that we all make can be annoying, uncalled for and hardly ever positive.

Here is a helpful guide and a little insight into some different types comments:

1. Under-the-breath comment – Probably the most frustrating and comes usually from my 12 year old. It’s typically followed by me yelling, “What did you just say?!” and gets the usually snotty reply “Nothing!” What’s most annoying is that if you took the time to say it, SPEAK UP!

2. Last Word comment – “It’s going to rain today.”, “No it’s not”, “Yes it is”, “We’ll see”, “Yeah we will”, and so on and so on. Need I say more?!

3. Piss You Off comment– These can be fun when you are the instigator but not when your on the receiving end. Similar to the last word, they are the extra dings a person gives that really are unnecessary. A great example is when my grandmother told my husband that she thought he was actually much older! Ouch.

4. Know It All comment – We all know that person who has done it all, had it worse and knows more about that subject than anyone. The best way I can describe that is my husbands description of a friend who falls into this category. He says that if he said his balls hurts she would tell him hers hurts more. Enough said.

5. F-U comment (aka the quick hit)– Probably the most short and sweet of the list. The F-U comment it great to get your point across and knock ‘me to their knees. It’s often combined with the Piss You Off comment.

6. Complimentary comment– This is the most elusive and least used. These stand out because they are few and far between which probably makes them so special. They are a needed addition especially with the ongoing barrage of the other types of comments.

Every one of the aforementioned comments have their own place and are all needed at one time or another. However I recommend that you use them wisely because they can be deadly – especially if the person on the receiving end is as sarcastic as you are!

Shampoo to Perfume – How many beauty products does it take to make us beautiful?

I was getting ready one morning when it dawned I me just how many beauty products I use while getting ready each day. So I decided to count them.  Hair products, skin care, makeup and perfume.  I never quantified the sheer number of items I used each day. Now I know  why the ladies at the  beauty counter see me coming from a mile away.

I used a grand total of 19 products in all.

Here is my list:

Welcome to Happiness Depends!

I was thinking about what I should name this blog… Jersey Mom (too much Jersey going on), Apparent Parent (taken), Momma All the Way (nah). So I really racked my brain as to how I feel.

  • I am a mom
  • I have good days and bad days
  • I love my kids but they can drive me crazy
  • I work full time and enjoy what I do
  • I am happily married (most days)
  • I try to balance everything with a smile on my face

All true but in the end I netted out that I just want to be happy. And that all depends!

It depends on the weather, if we got out of the door on time, the amount of caffeine pumping through my veins and a million other factors that change by the minute!

So I came up with the title – “Happiness Depends

I hope you enjoy my journey!
